13 MLB Draft Picks Recruited & Coached at Saint Mary’s
Josh Nashed launched Nexus Athlete Advising in 2023 after a decade in Division I and professional baseball as both a player and coach. After finishing his pro career with the Cleveland Indians, Josh spent four seasons at Saint Mary’s College in the West Coast Conference, where he was promoted in three consecutive seasons. In 2021 he became the youngest full-time assistant coach in the country at the Division I level, and a year later he was named the recruiting coordinator at SMC.
Josh’s impact at Saint Mary’s is best captured in the MLB Draft: 13 draft picks from his time recruiting and coaching at SMC, including 9 arms, 3 position players, and 1 high school signee. In just 3 seasons as the leader of the Gaels pitching staff, Josh developed nine pitchers who were drafted, with four top-ten round picks including 2nd round pick Ky Bush (2024 MLB Debut). In Josh’s first two full-time seasons at SMC, six Gaels arms were drafted, with three of them in the top ten rounds - good for first in the West Coast Conference and the best two-year span in program history. Gaels pitchers racked up a whopping $2.42 million in draft signing bonuses during that two-year span.
Josh played collegiately as a two-way player at San Jose State University before being drafted in 2017 by the Cleveland Indians. He also holds a master’s degree in Sports Management from Minot State University.
Fun Fact: Josh Nashed is the only known player of Egyptian descent to play affiliated professional baseball outside of Pittsburgh Pirates 1982 1st rounder Sam Khalifa. Josh’s grandfather moved to the United States from Cairo, Egypt in the early 1950’s.

Jimmy Meuel joins Nashed Athlete Advising after a 17-year college coaching career. Jimmy’s robust coaching resume features stops at the DI, DII, DIII & NAIA levels at 9 different colleges.
His stops include: San Jose State, University of San Francisco, UC Davis, UC San Diego, SF State, Art U, Lewis & Clark, Willamette, & Menlo College.
Jimmy also specializes in college planning on the academic side as an academic counselor.
